Genesis 50:15-21

Forgiveness is a Biblical imperative!

But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too." Mark 11:25 (NLT)

Even if he wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, forgive him." Luke 17:4 (NLT)

"If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:14-15 (NLT)

Jesus modeled forgiveness in His life.

Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you. Ephes. 4:32 (Msg)

Get along with each other, and forgive each other. If someone does wrong to you, forgive that person because the Lord forgave you. Col. 3:13 (NCV)

How do you handle being hurt?

Recognize the hurt.

You intended to harm me?. Genesis 50:20 (NIV)

Rebuke that person in love.

"If a believer does something wrong, go, confront him when the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have won back that believer. Matthew 18:15 (GW)

'This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.' Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father." Genesis 50:17a (NIV)

When their message came to him, Joseph wept. Genesis 50:17b

Restore the relationship.

So don't be afraid. I will take care of you and your children." So Joseph comforted his brothers and spoke kind words to them. Genesis 50:21 (NCV)

  • Restoring a broken relationship takes faith .

But Joseph told them, "Don't be afraid! I have no right to change what God has decided. You tried to harm me, but God made it turn out for the best, so that he could save all these people, as he is now doing. Genesis 50:19-20 (CEV)

  • You have to release the consequences to God.

Know and believe today that the Lord is God. He is God in heaven above and on the earth below. Deut. 4:39 (NCV)
